OUR MISSION

OUR MISSION

"... to make maturing disciples of Jesus Christ."

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you." Matthew 28:19-20

This is the central task of the church: to make disciples of Jesus Christ! That is to say... to make fully committed, thoroughly equipped, lifelong followers of Jesus Christ. J. Oswald Sanders once said, "Discipleship is the task of a lifetime... there is no such thing as short term discipleship!" And he was right!

Therefore we are fully and passionately committed to this mission:

"...making maturing disciples of Jesus Christ!"

SO HOW EXACTLY DO WE DO THIS?

Scroll down for a brief explanation

THROUGH

PREACHING THE GOSPEL

“.. preach the Gospel to all people." Mark 16:15

Everyone needs to hear the Good News that Jesus Christ came into this world to save people from their sins, and that God's forgiveness is freely available to all who would put their faith fully in Jesus Christ - who He is and what He has done!

And when a person truly repents of their sins and puts their faith and trust fully in Jesus Christ for salvation, and so become a born again child of God, we rejoice with the angels of heaven in that person's salvation!

But the work of the church has not finished at that point. On the contrary, it has only just begun...

THROUGH

TEACHING THE WORD OF GOD

"...teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you." Matthew 28:20

The teaching of God's Word - the Bible - is foundational to the work of "making disciples". In fact, the reality is that apart from the teaching of the Word of God disciples cannot be made!

That is why at Calvary Chapel we give priority to the teaching of God's Word in all that we do; helping people to grow in their knowledge of God, and in their understanding of His Word.

THROUGH

SERVING THE LORD

"...equipping the saints for the work of ministry." Ephesians 4:12

All born-again believers in Jesus Christ are saints, and according the the Apostle Paul, all saints have a part to play in the work of ministry. In fact, it is only when the saints minister to (or serve) one another, Paul said, that the church is built up and grows strong, and will of God for His church is fulfilled.

That is why we are committed to equipping (or preparing) God's people for service through the teaching of the Word of God, and then by providing them with the opportunities, training and encouragement needed to effectively serve the Lord through ministering to His people.
